marks one year since my dear friend Sherri Deal passed away
I was scared to go to school today,
I was nervous about seeing my old students,
I was sad to know she wasn't there...
but then I walked into my classroom
and students from last year
(the year we buried their teacher and my Steph)
had placed cards and a poem
THE poem
Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost.
This means more than you can imagine...
1. the kids remembered
2. they surrounded me with love AGAIN
3. they remembered Sherri's favorite poem
4. they used a poem from a book we read last year
and 5. they reminded me how much I love teaching
and teachers DO make a difference.
I am proud to be one of those teachers,
but I am even more proud to have shared six years
teaching side-by-side
with an amazing woman.
I love and miss you Sherri, but you would've been so proud of our kids today!

i'm glad you felt some warmth, love, and reward today. teachers lik3 you do make a difference....
Katie, the strength and courage that you have lived the last 9 months with has been an inspiration. I know that you do not want my pity and you do not have it. We must all muddle through what the Lord heaps on our plates. But you do have my friendship and my my love and my promise that I will never forget. I will never forget Steph's laugh and her contagious smile and mostly her infectious energy that really did light up the entire room when she was in it. I knew that Tues. would be tough...and the differences that a teacher makes is life changing. Thank you for changing one student at a time...my two children included-julie h.
I love this. It is why I am becoming a teacher...to make a difference in children's lives..and they do remember. You get to have so many more kids when you are a teacher than you could ever have as a parent. I'm glad the love keeps coming back to you...
This is a perfect and awesome tribute! I am so glad they did that. She would have loved it! I am sure she saw that.. she wouldn't have missed it...
